Perhaps William got his father's name wrong on his marriage record

This is the closest I can see for a Margaret born in Lesmahagow on 1891 census

Robert Anderson 33 born Whitburn occ Engine keeper
Margaret Anderson 33 born Lesmahagow
William Anderson 5 born Rutherglen

Address:

Wellshot Place, Rutherglen

Thanks for sending the marriage certificate through

William's address on the 1909 marriage certificate is 267 Main Street, Cambuslang

Margaret Anderson the widow of Robert Anderson died at 267 Main Street, Cambuslang in 1926

Like you I can't understand why he got his mother's name wrong
