bob was secretary of said church for about 46 years, looking for his family and was he born in au.

If your person of interest died in the Australian state of Victoria, then his death certificate should give you details of any marriage (when, where, to whom including her nee and any other former names), and the names and then ages of any children of his marriage/s.  It should also give you his place of birth and other vital information....  Here's a link to the RChat thread giving you details of what to expect on Vic BDM documents.
