Rebecca Marshall buried 17 Jan 1836 Beaumont cum Moze.
« on: Tuesday 12 February 13 13:38 GMT (UK) »
Rebecca née ? Had 11 children by John Marshall. The first baptism is Sarah 9 March 1817 B-C-M, the last Caroline 28 Feb 1829. No trace of a marriage that I can find despite 30 years of searching. All I have found is that she was a witness at the wedding of Samuel Lawrence & Ann Hunt 26 Dec 1833 in Wix. Samuel ended up as a rag & bone man in Chelsea, both bride & groom made their mark. Rebecca signed,as did Maurice Constable, farm baliff at Oakley Hall. Third witness Elizabeth Ann King (Hunt?),it's vey faint.   Ann Hunt's mother was Ann Burgess. The Marshall family  became Methodists, I don't know when Methodist marriages started in North East Essex. Is that why I can't find them? I've tried in vain to find a baptism for Rebecca after giving her all the above surnames. Any ideas?

Thank you Sue. It didn't come up on freereg, nor does her baptism. You must live in the Essex Record Office.

Have you had any luck finding Rebecca's baptism now that you've got her maiden name? Goby comes out as Gobey and also sometimes appears to be interchangeable with Golby and Golbey. I assume she had died before the 1841 census? (just had a look and found John on his own living in BCM). So we won't find her place of birth on the 1851. :(

I'm making it my mission to transcribe all the Tendring parishes for Freereg, so if she was baptised there and it's in a register, it'll be on Freereg eventually!

Thank you for following this up. No I haven't found her baptism. I searched the surrounding villages when I had Seax, but my subscription has run out! I'm relying on the Great Oakley Family reconstitution forms 1559-1839 held at Chelmsford. Although I'm not going to england until the weather improves.

It might be worth writing to the Trinity Methodist Church, Pier Avenue, Clacton-on-Sea. I think one of their member's father was at Beaumont Methodist Church in the 1980-90's and named Marshall.

A long shot.
Rebecca died in B cum M in 1836 approx birth year 1796.
There is a baptism in Haddenham Cambridgeshire in 1796 of a Rebecca Gooby  to a William and Eleanor. This is on Free Reg.
