Hi Everyone,
Yesterday I found an online book called the Law Advertiser.  It appears to be printed every year in the 1830's and this vol is vol 9 for 1831.Here are the following extractions -
Paxton John, the younger, formerly of Berwick Upon Tweed,Linen Draper, but lately of 22 Ironmonger Lane, in the city of London. To surrender May 10, May 17 and June 10 C.C.R.
PetCred Thomas Hogarth of Etal, Northumberland, schoolmaster, now residing at 26 Golden Lane, Middlesex. Seal April 23

There is another listing with almost the same words.

Then the third lisitng is as follows -
Under the heading "Assignees Chosen"
Paxton John.....James Hogarth of Etal, Northumberland, schoolmaster, and Mary Hogarth, of Hay Farm, Northumberland, Spinster. Dated May 17

This looks like John Paxton owed money to the Hogarths as creditors??

Im wondering if this Mary Hogarth would be the mother of Isabella James (who may be illegitimate??) and who married John Paxton......making Mary Hogarth William James Paxton's grandmother?/
Would James Hogarth be her broither??father??
Smith - London, Hackney, Northumberland, Lancashire
Paxton - Kensington, Hackney, Northumberland, Norham, Berwick On Tweed
Hogarth - Northumberland, Edinburgh

It seems to all fit together!

I'm now after the William Paxton, executor - may give us a lead!

:D :D :D

Think he's the link

1841 in Newcastle

HO107/1/17/26
Isabella Paxton, 35
William, 11
Mary Hogarth, 60

etc...

:D

In 1851

Western Lane, Berwick
HO107/2421/458/38
Mary Hogarth, married, 70, annuitant
Isabella Paxton, daughter, widow, 49, Proprietor of House
both born Northumberland

So William Paxton was Mary Hogarth's grandson.

Added - if you Google Hay Farm, Northumberland, you'll find lots of links and images:

Going back to the original query I looked for a marriage between Isabella and Joseph in Berwick PRs from 1814 to 1830 but didn’t find one.  Then I checked the Northumberland marriage index from 1813 - 1837 and they are not anywhere in the county within that time frame.

It’s possible that they married late in life which would account for the lack of children - what year is your first sighting of them as a couple?

PS forgot to look for her baptism  :-[  will do that next week
