Hi Lin

What ages do you have for them on the certificate?  It's possible that they could be on the 1911 census.


Also, who were the witnesses?

I think you have the date wrong - it's 1831 not 1931

I'll take a look a 100 years earlier then

David Hood died 11 March 1884. Parents given as Thomas Hood, butler and Margaret m.s. McQueen. Both deceased.

hi brevitas your brilliant where do you get this info from should i look up thomas & margaret on the 1851 census i might be able to find out where they were born thanks again for all your help regards lin

Not found Jean's records yet. They were in Renfrew in 1861. She died before David.

If naming convention used, then Jean's parents would be Jean and John. Given her first daughter's name, this could be her mother in 1841:

Rodingside, Mauchline
Jean Mason, 70, b. Ayrshire

I'll look for David's parents' lines.

Looks as if David's mother was living close by in 1841-

Londown St, Mauchline
Margaret Hood, 60, b. Ayrshire

and still there in 1851 -

Margaret Hood, 74, hand sewer, b. Girvan
