BLOUNT, Florence Jane abt.1856 Goudhurst

Hello,
Please help me find Florence Jane Blount, born about 1856 Goudhurst, Kent, father Jesse Blount occupation Gardener in 1880.
The surname may have changed from Blunt, but to date I cannot find Florence Jane on any census record before she got married, or a birth registered in that name.
Florence Jane Blount married John Thomas in Chester Dec Qtr 1880, and after that date used the christian names of Florence Jane, just Florence and just Jane on census records 1891 to 1911.

Hmmm tricky one. 

There is a Blunt family in Goudhurst in 1881 (I was looking for Jesse a gardener) but they are Samuel and Naomi.  Samuel is a dealer in poultry.

There's a Jesse Blunt marriage in 1848 Ticehurst but 3 brides to choose from Zilpah, Frances or Hannah.

1861 we have a Jesse Blunt born Goudhurst wife Sophia.  He's an agricultural labourer with children

Now that would leave a nice little slot for a 5 year old Florence Jane!  Maybe she was with grandparents IF that's the right family of course.

Jesse dies in 1880 so he isn't gardening in 1881.

Wife is Zilpah Bartholomew.

In 1871 still no Florence Jane with them but at 15 she could be out on her own? 

1871 has George 13 Kate 11 Isabella 9

Are we assuming that Sophia & Zilpah are one & the same?

There's a Zilpah Bartholemew with father William born 1791 and brothers William (1821) and James (1826) in Goudhurst on the 1841 census (HO107 pce 473 folio 4/35 pg . I wondered if Florence might be with one of her uncles on the other censuses?

Dear Brian,

Research on the internet has revealed two pieces of information which may or may not be relevant. I found a birth for Florence Blunt in Cranbrook registration district, third quarter of 1868, folio 2A, page 617.

In the 1871 census the family were at Old Cranbrook Road, Hawkhurst but Florence was not listed. However in the same census I found a record for a property in Styles Yard, Horsmonden in the names of James and Henrietta Bradford. However, interestingly a Florence Blunt was listed aged five and shown as a Niece.

According to my road atlas Goudhurst, Hawkhurst and Horsmonden are all in the same general area. However, the birth record indicates 1868 and the 1871 census aged five in 1871, leaving a gap of two years, although the census records were not always precise and of course she was not with her parents on census day.

There's a marriage in Dec qtr 1861  vol 2a page 697 in Tunbridge Wells for a James Bradford and one of the possible spouses is a Henrietta Blunt.

1881 census has  Florence Rose Blount, 15 a pupil teacher born Brenchley, Kent with aunt Henrietta Bradford, widow.

Yes I think Sophia and Zilpah are the same lady. 

Brian says the Florence he is looking for was born 1856 so I think we are going a bit wrong with the one born 1868?
