St Bart's, Holborn - buried in middle aisle
« on: Sunday 10 February 13 09:58 GMT (UK) »
Morning all :-)

Does anyone know if there are records online that give details of who is buried inside St Bart's, Holborn?  I have come across an ancestor, who according to his Will, wanted to be buried next to his wife under the middle aisle of the church (her burial is confirmed in church records on Ancestry).  His name was Benjamin Cooper, died/buried 11 October 1786.

Also, why would someone be allowed to be buried in a church rather than the graveyard, his occupation was Goldsmith, so no occupational links with the church.

Thanks
Anna

As a goldsmith he would probably have been a wealthy man.  I think anyone could be buried inside the church if they had the funds to do so.

Was just looking to see if the Goldsmiths were one of the livery companies associated with the Church but don't seem to be  :-\

He may have been a patron of the Church.

He was certainly a goldsmith but he seems to have been better known in 1786 as a silversmith:
