« on: Friday 08 February 13 20:17 GMT (UK) »
I am in need of a marriage lookup for a James Lynas to Sarah Goudy/Gowdy in the Antrim/Down area as their first born son also James was baptised at St Anne's, Shankill, Belfast. They were married abt 1845-6 consideing their son was born in march of 1846. I do not know the father's names of both parties and have exhausted every other search. Any suggestions?

Civil registration of non-catholic marriages started in 1845 and I can't see the marriage in the civil registration index so perhaps they married before 1845.

I did find marriage of son in 1876 in Manhattan, N.Y.-

Did James & Sarah Lynas go to America? If so, suggest checking all possible U.S. records for more clues. For example, if they died in New York their death certificates might list birthplace and/or parents.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Thank you for checking. I really appreciate you giving me your time and insight. It may be possible that they married prior to 1845 and therefore a civil registration would not be available. James and Sarah stayed in Belfast with two of their boys and are buried in the Belfast City Cemetery. Their daughter Margaret married inn ireland and emigrated as well as her brother James Gowdy Lynas who married in New York. Do you think it would be worth my while to write to St Anne's Church and ask if they have a marriage record?

I am also researching James Lynas and Sarah Gowdy.  They had a daughter, Margaret Lynas, baptized 2 Feb 1853, also at St. Anne's.  Margaret Lynas married James McCaughan on 6 Oct 1871.

I have a digitized letter from James G. Lynas to my grandfather, dated May 15, 1915.  In it he references all kinds of information about his children.

Hello fellow Lynas/Goudy researcher,

I have ALL birth /Marriage certs for Margaret Lynas- Feb 4, 1853 and her siblings. It is her parents marriage that I cannot locate. I suspect it will be a church register and not civil as it is most likely before civil records were kept. I would love to see your letter from James Gowdy Lynas. I am researching their father whom I suspect is a relative of mine. We could be very well connected. if you would like to contact me  I can give you my email in a private message.  I have been working with P. Hathaway (cousin of yours)  to sort out her tree as it seemed others thought that Sarah Gowdy and James Lynas were from Scotland which is an error. Would it be possible for you to share James G Lynas' letter?
