Morgan,

That is wonderful you have found my family back that far and so quickly! I knew about the John names becoming Jones etc. but didn't know the time frames. Really appreciate your input and knowledge.

Hi again,

I would be grateful to know if Griffith John or JONES is on the 1851 census in Merthry, age about 77. Or on the 1841 if he didn't make it that far. Thank you.

Regards,

Lynn

I can't see any possibilities on 1851. On 1841 I found a Griffith John (but not necessarily yours) in the neighbouring Parish of Abergwili.

Griffith John age 70 Farmer
Anna John age 45

HO107 Piece 1383 Book 1 ED 27 Folio 7 Pg5

In the next household, at Bridgegate, is a William Griffith age 40  Ag Lab., with Eliza Griffith age 10, Eleanor Griffith age 8, and Rachel Griffith age 6.

All born Carmarthenshire

No relationships on 1841 and ages rounded down to nearest 5 years  :-\

Can't be certain that these are your family members without further proof. Need to look closely at OPR for Merthyr and Abergwili but I don't have access to these. You could order CDs from LDS Family History Library if you want to follow up.

Hi Morgan,

Yes I understand I will have to verify but what more would LDS CD have that would make it certain ??? Have never seen any of these files before.

Hi Lynn

There will probably be more information available on the CDs than there is online.
For Merthr: "Bishops' Transcripts, covering the period (1672-3, 1677-9, 1682, 1686, 1690-1, 1694-9, 1702-3, 1707-8, 1711, 1713, 1715-18, 1723-36, 1738-1800, 1802-39, 1841-2) are at the National Library of Wales, and have been microfilmed by the LDS."

Kind Regards
Morgan
