thank you Jusnoneed,  you could be right about the n instead of a y.  I will have to wait and see.

I did originally assume it was dressmaker,  but when I put my glasses on I wasn't so sure.  I am still none the weiser.  But dressmaker would probable make more sense..

My immediate reaction was also for Dressmaker and Thorburn -- but after a second look, I wouldn't be surprised if occupation turned out to be Quilt Maker.

The thing that made me think it's not Quilt is when you look at all the other letters with  lines in eg l/t/h they are written quite clear and long. The supposed l and t in this word are not written like that. Hope that makes sense!
