Where do they live?    What birth places are given in the census?   You need to look at parish registers to find baptisms.  Many are online on www.familysearch.org   Have a look at the Resources board for Northumberland to see what else is available.

A tree on Ancestry has them marrying in Monkwearmouth, Durham?

If they are the couple living at Dawdon in 1851, then Andrew is born Sunderland, Hannah is born Seaton (both County Durham).

I am sure that people will help, but you do need to give us some clues :-)

Where were they married? from the information you have given it looks like they were married in Monkwearmouth and both were recorded as being 'of this parish', so I am not quite sure where the Northumberland connection is.

To try to trace them back you would need to look at the census returns in which you have found them.
1841 should tell you if they were born in the county in which they were living, later ones may give a more exact birthplace. Take that, along with their stated ages on the census, and you should come up with a date range for their births and an area.

Armed with that, you can search on sites like Family Search, FreeREG to see if you can find a likely baptism for them. If, as I suspect, you need to look in Durham not Northumberland, then Durham Records Online may have some details (but that is not a free site, there is a charge to see records). If you are aware of any siblings for either of them, do the same for them and use that as a cross reference.

If you post back with more detailed info then we can help you look.

Thanks everyone, yes they did marry in monkwearmouth a J Brough was a witness, the census vary on Seaham, Sharpley hall and Sunderland for births, both born around 1786, one birth given as 1795 for Andrew at Bishopswearmouth, I haven't a clue if any have siblings which is what is driving me  scatty, I've put down all the family names and would say James,Andrew and Margaret on the Ayre side and John and Hannah on the Brough, this is pure conjecture on my part, but I know there were habits of naming children in a certain order after relatives, sorry to be vague, my family all originate from Durham s nd Northumberland, got credits for Durham online but getting nowhere with it, got these pair on the census and there's an Andrew Ayre who went bankrupt along with a John Brough in Seaham, sure they tie . In and Andrew Smith Ayre is definitely e my Pairs grandson, we believe he settled in America, Illinois I believe, he came back sometime towards end of 1800s, we then had a Fanny Webb Ayre and Hannah brough Ayre , Hannah has her birth as being in Australia in mid 1800s, I have so much information but need the ties that bind, no idea who is the anchor is, I've done a tree but really need to get my Andrew and Hannah sorted, as these random ones I've found do sound like they must be related , thanks for the input, sorry I'm vague, I've just been chasing my tails thanks everyone look forward to he a ring from you Jox
