Joseph ISLES: baptism certificate and Court Records in Southampton 1771-1798

Can anyone set me in the right direction. I live in Sydney Australia and will be visiting England in May 2013 attempting to get copies of baptism certificate for my ancestor Joseph Isles born in Millbrook and baptised in church of Holy Rood Southampton Hampshire.  Also Joseph Isles'  court records from 1798 for stealing in Millbrook, found guilty and sentenced in Winchester Assizes Court to Transportation?
Where do I find 'calendars of prisoners' held in Southampton gaol 1710-1838?
Surviving trial records which date from 1746 which are held in National Archives?  can I search these records in Southampton or are they held in London ?
Would be most grateful for any assistance that will help me find the right places to go to for these records.

You can see pictures of the old Southampton gaol and Holyrood Church on this site www.plimsoll.org              Holyrood Church is a ruin, as it was damaged during the second world war, but quite a lot of it still remains. The gaol is still standing and is now called Gods House Tower, and is down near the docks. Holyrood Church is situated on the corner of Bernard Street and High Street. You should be able to find a record of Joseph Isles's baptism on line. Do you know the year of his birth?

Thank you "paco' for your help.   Joseph Isles was baptised in 1771 at Holyrood church Southampton, I have a record from ICI LDS which is a translation from the church records I guess. I am after a copy of the original record if I can get it (also records of his siblings and parents which were at Holyrood church).  I have tried to get information from the Southampton Council archives but dont appear to be able to make contact with them from Australia. I must be doing something wrong.
  I am going to visit the Southampton Council records office when I arrive in Southampton but want to be sure that I can get a copy of B-D-M from there and wont then have to return to London to find the national archives to be able to get a copy. 
I am also looking to get copies of his court appearance at Winchester Assizes and any records that relate to his trial and sentence which was in January 1797.

Hi Glen,

The trial records for the assizes are held by the National Archives at Kew - about 70 miles from Southampton.

The original parish registers for Southampton churches are held at Southampton Archives.  If you visit there you can get a copy of the record or you could order it from the county record office in Winchester: http://www3.hants.gov.uk/archives/copies-hals.htm.  It would only be a print of the appropriate page in the register since there were no certificates per se before 1837.  The city archives also have the calendars of prisoners.
