Help needed on Malone Family
« on: Sunday 03 February 13 13:44 GMT (UK) »
I have a mystery I am unable to solve. Malone family shows on Canada 1851 census and plenty of information after that. I am trying to find their roots in Ireland for years and found nothing. I know I need Churches and townships etc but I have none. Family lore suggests arrived in Canada early in 1851 or late 1850. Catholic and again lore suggests emigrated from the north of Ireland. Again no proof has ever turned up.
What I know-Philip Malone b 1792 married Anne McMahon b 1805, children-Joseph b 1832, Edward b 1834, Patrick b 1836, Philip b 1838 and Barney b 1842
Any help with locating Irish origins greatly appreciated.

In a way you've answered your own question there... without a fairly detailed location, i.e. town, townland or parish, it's going to be extremely difficult, and due to early dates quite possibly impossible to start a search in Ireland for your Malones. The baptisms for the parents particularly..  in cases like this you have to start with later records to try to find clues - in this case in Canada.

Where were the children born ?

I know it is almost impossible, I am just hoping perhaps someone has the same family or has run across them while researching other Malone families.
According to the Canadian census all the family was born in Ireland and two dates are cited on the children's returns later in life in Canada. One being 1851 Ireland and one being 1861 Ireland. Since the family appears on the 1851 census I assume the 1861 was poor hand writing or not listening.

The youngest child born in Ireland is usually the best one to focus on, as the more recent the event, the more likely there is a written record. With no detailed location available the only method available for a search is using  online records and checking the parents names. Most RC parish records online at the moment unfortunately are only on subscription websites. Not all counties or available parish records are online, so it might worth rechecking from time to time.
