If John Harper is the father of Matthew Harper we may be on the right track.

switching to Maggsie’s information re Saintfield in Blaris district which is in both Co Antrim and Co Down
below from
http://www.irishgenealogyhub.com/down/tithe-applotment-books/saintfield-parish.php#.Vy7WfmOoc5Q
Harper, James   Townland: Drumaligg Gordon Year: 1834
Harper, John      Townland: Lisdalgon Year: 1834
notes Blaris civil parish which is both counties, doesn’t contain Saintfield but those borders might change if it a religious area ie C of I and Catholic parishes of the same name may include different townlands etc.  no Blanchard found in the above database.  Drumaligg is only one townland away from Comber civil parish, Lisdalgon is just nw of Saintfield itself

moving to Ros Davies Co Down website
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rosdavies/SURNAMES/B/Bl.htm
BLANCHARD   family   Blaris   of Huguenot origin who came to Lisburn area from France in 1600s   HL
Corpl.   .   BLANCHARD   .   Comber   held a lease for 31 years from Mount Alexander Estate from 1681
notes  only two tantalizing entries. the center of theMount Alexander estate is just to the north of Comber itself, Comber parish sits along the NE border of Saintfield parish we are only about 5-7 miles apart

the existing church records as per Ros Davies website and www.nidirect.gov.uk/sites/default/files/publications/Guide_to_church_records.pdf
this is PRONI, Belfast which gives

C.I. Saintfield (Down diocese)

Volume of manuscript notes giving dates and places of death of members, c. 1950-c.1961.
P. 2nd Saintfield
Baptisms, 1831-1902; marriages, 1831-1930; burials, 1831-84; details of elders, 1831-9.
R.C. Carrickmannon and Saintfield (Down and Connor Baptisms, 1837-81; marriages, 1845-83.
you need to look up the pdf to get microfilm references etc
I wonder did Maggsie know which church, the above suggests its Church of Ireland, so? is it worthwhile looking for Blanchards
good luck
