Does your brother have a copy of his birth certificate?  It may give a clue as to which premises he was born in?

Mine, 1945,  says St Marys Hospital [Village Branch] Prestbury R D [assume Rural District].

Collar House would probably have been shown as shown as St Marys Hospital Prestbury Main Branch.

Certainly a nice village to be born in whichever place it was.

My brother's birth certificate for 1950 said Village branch and our mum always said he was born in Collar House.

I am wondering how long Prestbury was used after the war.

I was born in December 1948 and my birth certificate says Prestbury. This correspondence suggests Prestbury Hall was only used till 1945, so is it more likely I was born in Collar House?

Hi Mary

Somewhere on my computer I've got a PDF file of two chapters from a book about St Mary's Hospital and the chapters refer to the war years and the post war years and I think it mentions both units being open until the early 1950s, though Prestbury Hall was just used as nurses' accommodation for the last year of its existence.

I'll get in touch when I find the file.

Yes. Highly likely. My mother was born in Collar House, October 30th 1946. It was the former home of Sir Oswald Moseley. I found this great little article online which might help shed some light  :)

The article from the link states:

'One website states categorically that this had been the home of Sir Oswald Mosley, leader of the British Union of Fascists. Not very well researched for the Moseley family of Prestbury did not even spell their name in the same way as Sir Oswald'
