Dropbox, Flickr or...?
« on: Friday 01 February 13 18:26 GMT (UK) »
I want to be able to share some of my videos of my granddaughter with the wider family. Can anyone recommend the best way to do this please? (I'm particularly concerned about the privacy issue)
I'm a complete novice about using the 'cloud'!!!

I would look into youtube but make sure you set the privacy settings correctly before you load the videos up. I have a few videos on there and have them set to private.

There are probably lots of file sharing sites out there but how many are secure is another matter :(

That's helpful, thank you, Kevin. I didn't realise that Youtube could be private (told you I was a novice  ;D) It's not an urgent thing, just something that occurred to me today, so I've got time to look into your idea.

Thank you again

Pat

if you subscribe to certain services then you can upload media/docs to their cloud services for free.

For example, I have a google account as I use Gmail therefore I have storage facilty for photos and videos using their service called picasa. To share docs and access them from other PC's I use google drive.

My ISP is BT and they have BT cloud & Flickr.

I have sky tv and they have sky drive.

All of them can be set up so your photos can be shared publically or privately.

Hope this helps

Just an idea...

Put them on a DVD and post them?

Yes Trystan, good idea, I have done that when I've had a lot of stuff, but I'm thinking more of videos for my daughter to see, she does a lot of travelling with work but can always access the internet so if I take a cute video of my granddaughter or the pets she can access it quickly.

Thank you Mike - I have BT and Sky TV - think that's the answer, I'd no idea about those services.

Thanks to both of you  :)

Why not use Dropbox. Create copies and send them to the cloud away from your computer, you always have a backup then if things go wrong. You can now share with whomever you like. All you do is send them a link to the files that you want them to see - job done

Another one is that you can get a Google drive, and let your daughter know your access details to it. It's free.
