Tickettyboo what do you mean by " a look up request for the register".
Hi sorry, I should have explained. The South Tyneside Registrars site gives a code for the register the entry appears in and the date of the marriage (11th May 1921). If Ethel (Mary E SHANLEY) was Catholic then the marriage was likely to be in a catholic church with a registrar present to satisfy the legal, civil requirement.
Tyne and Wear Archives hold microfilm copies of St Bede's RC Church covering marriages of that period. If you are in the area then you could pop in and look it up to see if it was there they were married (and get a copy of the entry). If you aren't in the area then if you ask for a look up someone may check for you next time they are at the archives. I am in Scotland or I would offer :-)
Its way cheaper (50p a copy if you go yourself) than a marriage cert from the GRO at £9.25 a pop.
As you are certain that this is the right marriage , a certificate or copy from a marriage register would give you the info about father's names for both bride and groom (as long as they knew who their fathers were). Then you can go looking in the census armed with the correct info, which will make it so much easier and a lot more rewarding :-)
