On 2 February 1901 my first cousin 1 x removed, Henry John Conquest, was born in Clapham, Surrey.  He was the son of Edwin Arthur and Louisa Mary Ann (nee Smith).  I don't know much about him, except that he married twice, first in 1925 and then in 1967, three years before his death.

On 5 February 1799 my 4 x great grandfather, Matthew Ashwell, died in Kempston, Bedfordshire, aged 52.  Thanks to another researcher I have found out quite a lot about some Ashwells, but not much about Matthew.

On 6 February 1831 my great great aunt Harriet Wilson was baptised at Hoxton St John, London.  She was the daughter of Robert and Harriet (nee Sewell).  I have her marriage to William Henry Manners in 1854 but after that she disappears, as does William Henry, except for some possibilities in London Electoral Registers.

On 8 February 1852 my great great uncle Henry Conquest was born in Blunham, Bedfordshire, the son of James and Susan (nee Crisp).  I have him in 1871 with his parents, aged 19, but cannot find him after that.  Some family trees have a death for him in 1872, but without a death certificate I can't be sure, and even then there might be no way of knowing if it was the right person.

Just a mention of my great uncle Kit ( Christopher Wilberforce Smith) who was born on this day in 1898, in Middlesbrough. I posted this anniversary in the thread last year but since then I have looked at the Bedfordshire Regiment's movements during July 1917 and I now know that he died either in action at Zillebeke, or near Bedford House, en route back to the 2nd Battalion's base at Chateau Segard, just South West of Ieper. I have contacted the owner of the web site which has this information to see if he knows any more but haven't had a reply yet.

Thinking about you today Kit. Nineteen was too young to die.

On 13 February 1918 my first cousin 3 x removed, Emma Conquest, died in Saginaw, Michigan, USA, aged 74.  She was born in Cardington, Bedfordshire, in 1843 and emigrated with her parents, Josiah and Martha (nee Brampton) in 1853.  She never married, but seems to have looked after several nieces and nephews, as well as her brother Thomas, who also remained single.

On 14 February 1855 John Conquest, my great great uncle, died in Bedford, aged only five.  Apparently he fell into a fire and didn't recover from the burns - how sad.  His mother Susan was pregnant at the time and a son, also named John, was born in August.

On 15 February

In 1888 Amelia Clara Bonnard, my first cousin 1 x removed, was born in Shoreditch, London.  She was the daughter of Charles Jules Victor and Mary Ann Eliza (nee Marshall).  Charles was born in France and worked as a chef.

In 1902 Sarah Gertrude Ashwell, my second cousin 2 x removed, was born in Bedford, Bedfordshire, the daughter of Charles James and Mary Elizabeth (nee Coles).  I have only recently found this branch and don't know much about the family.
