On 16 February

In 1807 Josiah Conquest, my 2 x g.g uncle, was born in Cardington, Bedfordshire, the son of William and Martha (nee Thomason). He later emigrated to America with his wife and seven of their children.  He was a farmer in Birch Run, Michigan.

In 1833 Robert Wilson, my g.g uncle, was born in Hoxton, London, the son of Robert and Harriet (nee Sewell).

In 1900 Eleanor Maude Kathleen Marshall, my aunt, was born in Leytonstone, Essex.  She was the daughter of Samuel Robert and Louise Maude Mary (nee Conquest).  Known as Nellie, she was ten years old when the next child, my mother, was born, although I suspect there was a child born between them.  In the 1911 census it says one of their six children has died, but of course I've no idea when this would have been.  I never knew Aunt Nellie, as my mother didn't keep in touch with her.  She died in 1980.

On 18 February 1870 a first cousin 3 x removed, James Matthew Ashwell, was baptised at All Saints Church, Kempston, Bedfordshire, the son of Emmanuel and Mary Ann (nee Smith).  Sadly, he only lived until just after his first birthday.

On 20 February 1794 my 3 x great grandparents, John Spiby and Mary Morrison, married at Thorpe Arnold, Leicestershire.  I haven't been able to find out much about them.

On this day in 1879 my paternal grandfather, Percival Wilson, was born in Hackney, London, the son of Frederic Sewell Wilson and Clara Rosina (nee Giovannelli).  He was a loving grandpa to me and my brother and sister, and we used to enjoy visiting him and grandma in Leytonstone.  I was the eldest granddaughter and he always made an extra fuss of me, I think because I reminded him of the two daughters who had died in their thirties, leaving them with just sons.
