Thank you all very much for looking for me.

Everything points to this being my Emma, except the ages given.

She was born in 1884, so on the passenger list she would have been 34 / 35, not the 30 as stated.

On the death notice in 1921, she would have been 36 / 37 - not 32 as stated.

I wonder if it isn't my Emma at all, but just a coincidence that this Emma was from Dudley as well.

Would the New Zealand death certificate give her parents names etc?

If not, I will have to purchase her marriage cert to find out for sure.

Thanks again for your help,

Darin.

Hi Darin

Yes, a New Zealand death record of 1921 makes provision for naming of the deceased's parents, place of birth, place and date of marriage and to whom  ... age(s) and sex of any children born of the union ... etc.  (provided of course that the informant to the death, has that knowledge).

If ordering the NZ death record, we recommend that you opt for the "printout" version (which is a copy of the registry entry ... it's a little less costly too. )

Hi again Darin

.... just before you spend $$$ (or pounds) on a marriage cert. or death printout, it may be worth contacting the Karori Cemetery at Wellington to see if they have any additional information.

If you use the link provided by Beg in his post, you'll see there is an email contact provided for the Cemetery office.   It's worth a try.  ;)

Hi again...

Just following on from Lucy's suggestion:

If you decide to contact the cemetery you might also ask about the following record...

George NEWMAN
http://www.wellington.govt.nz/services/cemeteries/search/details.php?id=92133&Service=Burial

If possible ask if they'll take a photo of his plaque as it will mention a Service number. Hopefully it's No.69750 as mentioned by Twiggy. Or possibly No.83963, a George NEWMAN found on Archway but not on Cenotaph.

If this is the right George it may explain Emma's five year age discrepancy as this George was born in 1891, seven years before your Emma. She may have shaved off a few years at the wedding.

Regards
Beg

Just a note, last time that I enquired about a photo of a Wellington gravestone, I was told there was a charge!

"In regards to the request for a Photograph, yes we can arrange this for you but there is a cost of $5.00 which will need to be paid to the Wellington City Council prior.

Options for payment are:
Cheque
Internet Banking
Cash/VISA/Eftpos - By coming into office only."
...out of, through, and back from New Zealand to the ends of the Earth

Hi Twiggy...

For what it's worth, last September I emailed Karori about a headstone photo and they just sent it out to me a few days later. Maybe the photo had already been taken but had yet to be posted on their website.

I guess Plan B could be to check for a plaque/headstone inscription on the NZSG cemetery fiche.
