Hi Trystan,
Without a doubt my favourite search posting, from August 2007 inolving "Gadget" and "mongoose2"
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,248565.20.html .
Started about a query of family born in Edinburgh, of a Sergeant George Gardiner in 1851. The topic followed this George Gardiner, who acted his old rank of RSM in the "Charge of the Light Brigade", (having been promoted a month earlier to Coronet and Adjutant, but as his replacement was not available), he stood into his old boots, as it were, and followed the charge as the RSM was supposed to do.
He came through the Crimean physically unscathed and became Governor of Northallerton Prison for some 30 years. What a find that was for "mongoose2", who ended up with photographs, news clippings and book extracts all about her relative.
