Hi,
My sister found this photo along with many other photos from the US.  We have no idea who they were but it would be good if someone could perhaps date it for me.  Thanks.

I'm going to risk being shot down in flames and guess 1915.  ;)

You may be asked to show the entire uncropped photograph including edges and back - as the experts use these as dating tools.

I can't even think that this family could be related to my family so a guess is just fine.

That's it.  Apparently there were no edges and it was lightweight paper.  I thought that it wasn't a genuine photo at first as we wouldn't have had any other similar photos.

Just a little earlier than Ruskie's estimate I think, maybe around 1908-1910ish. Odd that there isn't any heavy backing, it may be a reprint.

Cheers,

Thanks, China.

Do you think that it could have been taken in U.S?

I think China's estimate is about spot on. The woman's whole look is very "Gibson Girl" (hair, high waist line), which fell out of favor at the start of WWI. It very well could be an American photograph. It's really hard to tell without a stamp or some photographer information.

That said, this raises a curious question for me. Did English women do the whole "Gibson Girl" look as well or was that strictly an American thing?

The Wikipedia article indicates that the whole style of the Gibson Girl, not just the hair, was supposedly an American ideal. Included was an attitude that may not have gone over well in the UK :)

On the other hand, that chair doesn't look very American to me.

Many thanks.  If an original photo turns up with more detail, I will post again.
