There is an 1851 entry for an Isaac Johnson b 1839 Darlington - parents Isaac & Ann and he also appears on the 1841 census for Darlington aged 2yrs

There is no other entry for an Isaac Johnson/Johnston in Durham

The Henry Johnson on the 1891 is too young to be Isaac's father.  Henry in 1861 is born 1824 and married to Ann

If you buy a copy of Isaac's marriage cert and get his fathers name - it should then be relatively easy to trace him back

I'm of the opinion that there must be some relationship in 1891 as both families are recorded as if they are of one household.

It's possible that the elder Henry is Isaac Johnson's brother.

Hi to both of you, Thank you for the encouragement in this search, I will check the census out as you say Mim they must be related in some way possibly cousins if not brother's, and just looking at Family Search I see the 1891 census you mention was taken in Crook where Elizabeth came from so I will definitely check it out, coincidence or what . Carole I am also thinking of suggesting to my friend to buy the marriage cert as you say it would cut out all searching for sure, If I am successful in all of this search it will have given her a family back to her Gt Gt Gt Grandparents on both sides of her Paternal/maternal family apart from Isaac's immediate family, all that she had previous were her parents names and she is 72yrs old so I am quite pleased and very certain that the records I have found to date are the right ones. It has just taken hours of using the library computer which has been very useful bit of a bind going there but worth the effort, not many people in our little town doing family history. Cheers for now l.b

I agree that there is a probable relationship but Henry was b Yorkshire 1821-1824 and Isaac was b Durham 1836/37.  It's possible that Henry was Isaac's uncle

By 1851 - Henry was married and his eldest son Thomas b 1845 was b Yorkshire as was his wife.  (There is a 7yr gap between Thomas and next child who was b Durham so may have been a second marriage or Thomas may belong to his wife)

The 1851 entry for Isaac I mentioned earlier shows his father Isaac was b Croft Yorkshire 1806

Hi just to say that I took it on myself to order Isaac and Elizabeth's marriage certificate and it states the marriage took place in the Parish church of Crook, the couple were both school teachers and Isaac's father was Thomas Johnson a farmer, at the time of the marriage Isaac was resident at Bitchburn and Elizabeth was at Sunnybrow. I have done a birth search on Isaac with the added of info of his father Thomas with no result and at the moment I am trawling through the transcript records for Easington on Family search for the Johnson family, had no luck to date.
Would like to pick your brains on this idea, with the possible Yorkshire connection (Henry Johnson) if Isaac was born in Durham whilst his mother was visiting would they have been silly enough to leave his baptism till they arrived home considering the infant motality rate in those days. Any ideas any one can throw in are very welcome, cheers l.b  :)
