bell family tree
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 23:48 GMT (UK) »
Hi
Still looking for information on the parents of John Bell born @1806 in Hoddam(Ecclefechan), Scotland and the parents of Margaret Carlyle born about 1811 in Cummertrees.  I think John's mother was Jane Bryden but I am not sure.  If anyone can help me in this part of my family tree, I would greatly appreciate it.    Thanks

Hi

Births, marriages and deaths in Scotland from 1855 onwards contain full parental details including mothers maiden name.

The only website with that info is www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk which is a pay per view site.

Availability and type of records can be found here

On familysearch.org you will find that a probable father was James Bell and child, John was born 26 Jan 1810 and christened 4 Feb 1810 at Hoddam, Dumfries.
Is there a reason you think that John's wife was Jane Bryden.
Margaret's birth and christening can also be found on the familysearch website - this is free.
However, as Carol says, you can find more details from certificates.
Good hunting,
Rae
