Croft, North Yorkshire
« on: Wednesday 23 January 13 14:40 GMT (UK) »
Can anyone help, please?
I am looking for the birth of a JOHN PARK circa 1763.
John Park and his wife, Mary Brown,  moved to Croft around 1796/7. They were married at Kirby Wiske 1791 and lived at West Tanfield until 1795.
I have no Croft Parish records prior to 1790 and I wonder if anyone knows whether there was a PARK family/marriage at Croft from say 1755 to 1770?

Hi Epapip,

Just to add further information to your request :

I posted this comment, without additional details, in the hope that someone may have had a direct connection to this Stockton on Tees PARK family.

A little while ago, I saw a post re PARKS at Blackwell and directed those queries to a Canadian relative who was able to assist. I had hoped someone may have been able to help on a similar basis.

The Blackwell PARKS will inevitably arrive at this marriage and the following may help:

John Park married Mary Brown 16/5/1791 at Kirby Wiske.
Witnesses were Ralph Longthorne and Thomas Sturdy.

In the register, John Park is described as “in the Parish of Well” and Mary Brown “as of this Parish”(KW).  I am unable to trace a “suitable” Mary Brown at Kirby Wiske; similarly I have no firm contenders for the title of John Park.

Their children were:

1-   Jane-1792 @ Nosterfield
2-   John-1795 @ West Tanfield
3-   William-1797 @ Croft
4-   Thomas1799@ Croft
5-   Sarah -1802@ Croft
6-   Anne-1805 @ Croft
7-   George – 1807 @ Croft
8-   James- 1810 @ Croft

I fully understand that you've researched this family for a long time, but could I ask if there's a reason why you think John Park might have originated from Croft ?

The reason I ask - in view of where John was living when he married Mary - I'm wondering whether you've also considered looking at the parish records for Masham, which sadly aren't available online.

Hi Pels
Thanks for prompt reply.
My cousins and I have been struggling for umpteen years to find our missing John Park.
We have his death at Blackwell, Darlington in 1825 giving his age as 62.
I have an illegitimate John Park -correct date, at Coverham(mother Jane and John's first daughter, Jane!) but am now exploring parishes-the best way I can- that are not on the IGI. Other parish options for JP are not too good.
They appear to be Masham, North Otterington, Croft, Middleham and Middleton Tyas.
Thought Croft may be the best starter, as the family moved there after a few years in West Tanfield.
