pretty sure that the 'new' 21 million BMD  records, are the same as the ones on FamilySearch, and also on Ancestry. There may be some extracted records included but most are Index records, rather than actual BMD records.

Remember to check the Resource boards :  Ireland, Dublin, Antrim & Cork (and stickies at the top of other county sub-forums)

Agreed that this is a BIG letdown, completely not what was advertised.

50 credits does not go very far when you need to look at many records to find the right one.
I am out of credits already and will not be buying any more.

Can I ask what sort of information you got for your spent credits? I'm wondering if I spend credits to view a birth, death or marriage entry exactly what details are shown...
One thing the index does show is spouse's name for marriage.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!

Hi All,

I followed the link above for the 50 credits, input id and password, put details in, it says password incorrect. I left that went to FindMyPast site, and logged in with same id and password, and this was accepted. So I cannot activate the voucher for 50 credits.

How I agree about a let down  ;)  The BMD records are merely the index entries.  So gives you quarter, year, Registration District and page number.  Not what I was expecting to see, obviously.

A very good thing that it was free  :
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Let down, no, I am feeling rather positive. I am rather positive that I will not be subscribing to FindMyPast. These are not BMD records, they are part of an Index.

I was looking at some petty sessions records. Scant detail in there. Also looking at some US census records.

For those wondering what if any differences there are between the 'new' Irish  FindMyPast offerings and the existing Irish Civil Registration Index at familysearch, one I would highlight as perhaps beneficial to some is that on the Marriage index search, FindMyPast list the potential spouse, based on the names on the same volume/page......familysearch do not.

Oh it's potential spouse  ;D I thought all the men were killing off the wife and getting a new one.

Haven't found anything, except perhaps Landed Estate Court Rentals but not sure if I should have a look or not -30credits-, is the name on the search result the Landlord or the tenent?
Anyone know?!

potential spouses - often 4

Usually the tenant, but the landlord also appears, and often the tenant also appears in the index, so you often see two entries. I'd try the 2nd entry, if there is one, for the details.
