Thank you...I will check out Genuki.
I did try looking for Reg Districts on Google but did not come up with much.

GenUKI is a magnificent resource anyway!
I use it every day ;D

But that download PDF file of parishes vis-a-vis Registration Districts is so invaluable, that I keep it open every day!

Registration Districts were always changing, so it's good to know in which years a parish "belonged" to a particular RD.

If James was truthful with the 1911 birth location information of Llandysul, and the two met, then I would assume that it would have been between 1891 (when JGH is in Swansea) and 1895 (when James marries Sarah).

Something significant must have happened with the Swansea family in the 1890s (I assume the mother dying) because 2 of JGH siblings (Ernest & Florence) are living with grandfather John Parker in 1901 and the other brother Brinley (shown as Brindley in 1901) is living with an Elizabeth Cornelius and shown as a nephew.  Elizabeth Cornelius nee Parker married William Cornelius in 1881 Swansea.

There is one Mary Harris dying Swansea 1891 age 43 and another 1897 age 50 - both of whom could be the lady.  If the mother was the 1891 death and the family split up at that time then JGH could have just moved on.

Yes, what you say is true and yes mum probably did die.I have seen the other Parker census.Sister Flo was a witness at his marriage in 1905 so that all holds water so to speak.
How could he move up though from general labourer in 1891 to a Publisher's Manager in 1911.
The last job would need a fair bit of education I would think...different social caste too??
That is why I thought perhaps he may have had a bit of education in the Army (20 years?) or wherever he was in 1901.I have checked the incoming UK passenger lists and there are a couple of possibilities but no way of knowing for sure.Nothing from S Africa (Boer War) though.Mostly all from USA.

His service record (WO97 / 2988 / 114) indicates that he is

James George  HARRIS aged 20 years 3 months when he joined the Dragoons on 24 August 1893.  Born St Johns, Swansea

Looks like the mothers death was abt 1891

I don't think the Forces are included in Incoming Passenger List?
He would probably have taken a troop-ship home?

Brilliant find!! Yes, I remember now...the troop arrivals are on separate lists at TNA.They go by Regiment as most of the Army stuff does. They are known as Embarkation/Disembarkation lists. WO/25 series I think. They can be magic if looking for Army people.Boer War is only a guess though. He may have been posted to Ireland or somewhere.
