Hello,
Just for a change, the latest death certificate to arrive wasn't describing a Howe suicide or mental breakdown. This time it is a simple case of drowning.
I have been searching for a report on the death of Benjamin Howe, from Brightlingsea who drowned on September 30th 1869, when the boat Eliza Jane was upset by a gust of wind, off Harwich Harbour.
The inquest was held on October 12th and the coroner for Essex, Maldon, was Mr W. Codd. I feel sure the incident, or the inquest must have been reported somewhere.
If anyone is more adept at searching newspaper archives than I am, I'd really appreciate some help with this.
Many thanks,
Jen
