I'd be grateful for some help researching my great grandfather, David Powell Whittall, b. 1845 at Bettws-y-crwyn, south Shropshire. I'm slowly working my way back to his parents, John Whittall (b. abt 1805, Shropshire) and Ann Powell (b. abt 1810, Llandegly) who married abt 1834? and lived at Trebrodier, and have reached his paternal grandparents, another John Whittall and a Mary Jinkins. But I'd like to identify his wife, Mary, possibly Mary Harris, b. abt 1848 at Llanwnog..
Thanks,
Roy

who married abt 1834?
I'm only posting this because you put a ? next to the date.

John Whittall married by Banns to Ann Powell on the 2nd January 1834 at St Tecla's church, Llandegley, Radnorshire. (Both parties signed their name) A William Powell was a Witness.

Yes, that was a mistake which I've now modified (I think)! I meant his wife, Mary b. 1848..  ::)

Thanks for that marriage confirmation/detail..  :)
Where do you look for this information?? I'm researching on four main fronts, as you might imagine, but I'm a relative newcomer and I need to learn much more about search techniques and resources!
At the moment I'm mainly using Ancestry.co.uk, with some forays elsewhere such as ScotlandsPeople and specific local records.

Where do you look for this information??

You will find the entry using "FamilySearch"
https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/KCY7-6J3

To see the original image you will need a sub to FindMyPast. (I have given you all the details on the entry)

I'm a bit lost on Mary born abt 1848? did she marry David Powell Whittall? if so when?

The 1871 census shows her as Mary Whittal, wife of David, b Caerens abt 1847, living at Little Brampton and Rodd Nash with their first two children, Anne and Mary, both aged 3.. though Anne was actually b 1865. So I imagine they were married around 1864/65.
David Whittal is shown born Bellers which I assume should be Bettws.. but this could, of course, be another family..??

Another Census gives their marriage date as abt 1867, I've looked and I cannot find anything to fit, using the GRO indexes. Where did you get the surname Harris from? one of their children's birth certificates perhaps?

Harris is a long shot, taken from another Ancestry family tree (but which contained rather sparse information.. I was hoping that it's compiler had some personal family information).
