Harriet Waterhouse, birth abt 1817 Masborough (Rotherham)
« on: Wednesday 16 January 13 17:17 GMT (UK) »
If anyone has access to the Parish Records -or anything else relevant- for Masborough/ Masbro/Masbrough circa 1817, I'd be grateful for information on the birth of Harriet Waterhouse. I'd like to find her parents if possible.

Thanks

I think she married Henry White ( born abt 1817) of Wentworth in the September 1/4 of 1842.
I'm currently having a change of heart over that one however and will need to get further evidence.

My chief doubt as to whether I've got the right Harriet ( or even Henry) is that this marriage is shown in the Sheffield district and Henry was from Wentworth and Harriet Waterhouse from Masbro. They neither of then seem very mobile but were not married in the Rotherham district, as I would expect.

Edit: I'm more inclined to think I'm looking for Harriet Tunecliffe ( or near spelling) but need to rule Waterhouse out.

I was leaning towards Joseph Boycott who has an older wife called Harriet b 1816 Masboro.  No marriage found and it must have been after 1837 as he was only b 1827

How did you come up with her name and birthplace/birthyear?

Good question ! I'm going back looking at long-rested brick walls. My interest is the White side of the family (Henry was my gt gt grandfather) and the Tunecliffe marriage I got from freeBMD but had to give up looking before I sent off for any certificates.

I've been looking at Ancestry Member's trees this week however and the favourite for wife of Henry seems to be Harriet Waterhouse- though it looks like all the trees have copied this information. I can't find that marriage at the moment.

I think I'll have to buy the White /Tunecliffe certificate.

Thanks Carol. I was happy from the censuses that I'd got Henry marrying a Harriet but wanted to know more about Harriet Waterhouse's birth date and parents so I could hopefully- eliminate her from the censuses on the grounds of wrong age !  I was also hoping to find her parents so, when I get the marriage certificate, I'll know if it is the right father at least.

It's a right awkward family; Henry's father was Abraham White and he married a Catherine or Kitty Memnett  or Memmett or Memmet depending on the spelling. Just when I think I've got that nailed it turns out that Kitty's father was the "reputed son of Sarah Memnett" and Kitty's mother was a foundling from Ackworth hospital ( ie could have been a Londoner) with no surname given !

Grrr!!

(Edit: Sorry. forgot to say, thanks for the 1851; didn't manage to find that.)
