My G.G.Grandfathers name was Joseph Sixsmith, he would be aged 44 to 50

What was his wife's name and how do you know he was around in 1864?

I can't see a death for him of the correct age. There is one in Manchester in 1866, age given as 38, giving a date of birth of about 1824 (1861 census suggests a date of birth of 1821) but it could be the right person.  You'd have to get the death certificate to find out for sure. Ref Manchester Jan-Mar 1866 8D 169.

Someone called Joseph Sixsmith married on 3 Jul 1880 at Christ Church, Eccleston, Lancashire, giving his father's name as Joseph Sixsmith bottle blower, which ties in with his occupation on the 1861 census.  It doesn't state the father is deceased, but that doesn't mean anything as quite often the question wasn't asked.

I keep going back to the same death Lizzie.  Also I can`t find a suitable Joseph Sixsmith living in Lancashire born c.1828 in the 1841, 51 or 61 census.

Keasy, it could be that whoever registered the death didn`t know his true age so when asked they used their best guess.  It certainly wasn`t unheard of.
