Annette,

this possibility has been discussed on the other thread.

Main78,
One thread should be sufficient at the moment - information is being repeated or searched for unnecessarily.

I have had a look at the birth for the Bailey in Middlesbrough in 1925.

It is listed as Herbert E Bailey, A/M/J 1925.  Middlesbrough.

My Great Uncle is Albert * born *.  He did have trouble finding his birth certifcate that all we had was his baptism at the Middlesbrough Catheral Church in *.  This is how I found his mothers maiden name as Gallagher.  So, either the birth mother maiden name is wrong on the Batism record, or maybe it is wrong on the birth register.

I will have to look on census for the Gollaghy spelling and see what I find!

Also My great Uncle John, was John Jack Bailey born around 1918.... so very excited if this is him.

This has been a great help.  Thank you so much... any more help would be appreciated!  :-)

Did not realise I had not mentioned:

Walter Bailey + Mary Margaret (Gallagher)
Children:

John J Bailey c 1918
Margaret Bailey c 1920
Joseph James Bailey 30th Sept 1922
Albert *

Mary died April 1932 at St Barnabas u.d
Walter died June 1934 at St Luke's u.d

The three boys went into the childrens home, I have the admission and dischage copies of this
I dont know where margaret went, possibly with a relative.

They got split up as they left the childrens home when they come of age to leave

John went to the Army
Joseph was a Royal Marine
Albert was in the Navy

Albert is still living and lives in *, he moved in the 1960's..did not have contact with him until the 1980's.  He knows little to nothing of his parents, and due to his childhood in the childrens home, it is not something he will talk about.

My Grandad Joseph died in 1966 when my mum was 16, so have no information about his family from him.

Any help much appreciated..

I have found the four children.

I am now trying to find the marriage and/or birth of :

Walter Ernest Bailey c 1881 and
Mary Margaret Gallagher c 1895

Thinking marriage possibly in the Lancashire area due to where first son born.
I have also found out that Walter was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers.

Any ideas?

Can you tell us where the new information has come from?   You now state Walter had a second name of Ernest and that he was a Sapper in the Royal Engineers - where did you get these specific details?

On Scotlandspeople.com I discovered along with the Joseph Edward Bailey and Margaret Violet Bailey there was a Walter Ernest Bailey born In 1919 with the same parents.  He died at 10 hours old being premature.

I found out that Walter Bailey snr had the middle name Ernest from the death certificate of his son.  I presume possibly as he was premature they might not have had a name so named him after his father.

It also stated that the father Walter Ernest Bailey's occupation on the death certificare was a engine fitter, Sapper Royal Engineers.

I can confirm that the records for St. Luke's are at the Teesside Archives in Middlesbrough, my ancestor died in the hospital and I went to the archives to look at his records. You may or may not know that St. Luke's was the mental hospital or asylum as it was then referred to. You would not be allowed to look at the hospital records as they are subject to the 100 year rule. I was fortunate in that I found out only a few months before the hundred year anniversary of my ancestor's death that he had died there. I didn't have long to wait until I could see his records and I must admit it was a bit upsetting when I did read them. Although the records contained his age and date of admittance, his actual date of birth was not shown.

The staff at the archives are very helpful and perhaps if you rang and told them that you only wanted his age from the records, maybe they would look it up and let you know. Worth a try!

It seems that the surname of 'Gallagher' that you obtained from baptism record is incorrect and should be Gollagly or Gollogly.    I see this was listed on baby Walter's death certificate too.

You needed to stay in Scotland because that is where Walter Bailey married Margaret Gollagly on 8/11/1913 in Glasgow (strange they come up as Walter and Margaret in the index but when you view the certificate it just has 'W' and 'M'.   He was 33, son of John Bailey, Ship Plater and Grace, nee Griffiths - both shown as deceased.   She is 21, dau. of James Gollagly, Tailor (journeyman) and Helen, nee Mills.

Although they married in Glasgow the address for them both is given as 27a Parkhead Street, Motherwell.

They had a dau. Helen Grace b. and d. 1914 in Govan (named after her respective grandmothers) but knowing that there now seems to be no connection to Lancashire or the name Gallagher I'm wondering if the plain John Bailey b.1915 Govan could be your John.
