Hi
Could anyone give me information about Howlett Hall in Warkworth? My Great Great Grandmother worked there in service probably around 1875-1880. On a recent trip to Warkworth we explored the area, but only found a couple of cottages named Howlett Cottages. I recall a few years ago there was a sign from the River Coquet indicating Howlett Hall but this is no longer there. If anyone could give me any help I would much appreciate it!

will take you to the present-day OS map, and if you then click on the thumbnails to the right you can see Howlett Hall on older editions of the OS maps.

Just to say that the name "Hall" for a farmhouse can cause confusion, locally almost any medium-sized farmhouse can be called a "Hall"

In the 1871 Census Howlett Hall was occupied by William Dixon, a labourer, his wife, two sons and five daughters.
In the 1881 Census Howlett Hall was still occupied by William Dixon, now a gardener, his wife, one son and four daughters.
I wonder if the cottages are what was called Howlett Hall.

Looking at the 1901 census return for Howlett Hall, apparently there were only two rooms.
RG13 piece 4838 folio 71 page 23 James Bell, a dairy man, had one servant.

Thank you very much everyone - I am really pleased. I didn't know Hall referred to a farm - I was expecting a large house. Thank you also for the census info and also for the detailed map locations. Am glad this one is resolved now - I am grateful to you all.

Thank you Jen B. The 1828 map is interesting. It features quite predominantly on this map, and yet, when you look at Howlett Hall today it looks quite small and not worthy of being included on such a map.
