etiquette question

Hi,
I recently posted on a different site that I had finally had the information that solved a long lasting ancestral question and I gave the credit to my sister for her thinking way outside the square (perhaps not worded in the correct way) and I did thank rootshcatters who have helped me along the way.  The information was a surprise Christmas present and in my excitement I wanted to say that the problem had been solved.  My question is - was I wrong to have to have said that it was my sister who gave me the information or perhaps that I should have just let it be?
Due to family illness I rarely get time to go online and I have probably just messed up all the good things that rootschatters have given me in the past.

My opinion, which others may disagree with, is that people try their best to help, but sometimes aren't able to. As long as you thank them for their efforts I think that most would be pleased that you have solved your mystery no matter where the information came from.

I entirely agree with Ruskie and can't see how you've messed anything up. I'm really pleased you have solved one of your longstanding mysteries and I'm sure you'll find others that Rootschat may be able to assist with

I don't think it wrong to give credit where it is due.

I have been on Roots for nearly 4 years now.  I have helped alot of people
There is no way I would think anything untoward against a family member
eventually getting the million dollar question someone is seeking.
I think its great when you solve a problem , even if its not called Maria.

I think you did just the right thing.
I don't just think its etiquette on Rootschat to give credit where it is due, I am sure we can all give examples from our own lives when someone has taken the credit for an idea we originally thought of!
