Per Lancs BMD it looks like Mary Kelly's maiden name was McKey or McKay. There's a possible marriage in Preston in 1854: John Kelly/ Mary MacKay (Preston Register Office or Registrar Attended).

"Married, at Glasgow,on the 20th inst, William Campbell, the Scottish Giant, to Polly, daughter of Mr John Kelly, photographer,Burnley, Lancashire"

how did you figure out thats the right Mary?  I only ask because i can't find any records that link "Mary Kelly" to specifically "Mary McKey/Mckay/Mackay" vs any number of "Mary so and so's" that John could have married. ( I'm still fairly new (less than 1 year) to genealogy and i'm still learning the process of elimination game)

Thanks!

Have you looked for the birth registrations of the children on Lancs BMD? You will see that the mother's maiden name is shown

I am responding to this post because John Kelly is in my family tree (and David Chappell's).  William Campbell (24) married Mary Kelly (20) at 33 Connely Park Street, Glasgow, which was also their home address.  William is a ? - Pressman.  William's father is also William Campbell who was a Victualler.  William's mother is Marion Campbell (formerly Barron).  Mary Kelly's father is John Kelly who was a photographer.  Her mother is also Mary Kelly (formerly MacKay).

Hope you find this useful.
