Exporting family tree from desktop Family Tree Maker to Google Nexus tablet
« on: Saturday 12 January 13 17:30 GMT (UK) »
Apologies if this question has been asked before but I can't find anything...

I have a new Google Nexus 7 tablet and have installed the Ancestry app.  I'm a member of Ancestry.co.uk and build my "private" family tree on my desktop using Family Tree Maker 2011 software.

Is there any way that I can transfer my tree from the desktop computer to the Ancestry app ? I've got Dropbox installed on the tablet and can transfer a saved back-up file from the desktop to the tablet but can't work out how to open it using the Ancestry app.

Answers in words of one syllable please as I'm blundering about in the dark with the tablet at the moment !

Thanks

The only way I can find to do this is if I save the branches of the tree that I want on the tablet as a Gedcom file from my Family Tree program  and then upload them to my Ancestry account -ie Start A New Tree.  The tree is then automatically available, via the app, on my tablet.

This works fine so long as I remember to tick the box on Ancestry to keep the tree private.

If anyone knows of a more direct way to do it .....?
