"Too busy"

I agree.  I don't like those awful stars in the circles, the bold black lines that set off the quotes, the ads in between posts, and the nasty pink letters.  But I'll stick it out anyway.

Hi Tidybooks,

Thanks for the hint about control button and scroll to increase font etc.  Very helpful.  There is always something to learn!  And let's face it, nothing is absolutely perfect, if it was, wouldn't life be boring? - But Rootschat would have to be one of the best sites to be found!  Huge amount of hard work by lots of people - Well done!

By the way Tidybooks, i see you are in E.K.?  I have memories of a winter spent about 1978, with family of a friend in your home territory.  Some really good people!!  Wish I could have some of that wild winter weather (wind howling into bus shelter at Greenhills!!) - am currently spending one of the hottest summers and bushfire seasons here in Sunny South Australia!!
Cheers

Hi Maggbill,

I am jealous of your lovely weather, we are going into a cold snap this weekend, we may get snow again. My son stays in Greenhills, he is well above snow line, so he will get the snow first.
Glad you like the wee tip.

I'd go along with what Erato said. I go further and get rid of the "Stars" altogether & all the ridiculous names like Marquessate, Extra, Member, Senior etc etc. & the post count, if your desperate to see these things they could be in the members profile, when you click on it.

Other than that it took a bit of time to get used to it, but as previous post have said, everything still there just had a bit of gloss put on it. (I'm sure a lot more has gone on behind the site in technical terms, which I'm very grateful to Trystan and Sarah for).

One thing I must say.

If watching ANY screen gives you bad headaches, then something is obviously wrong.
A trip to your optician seems a sensible thing to try now.

Don't ignore the pain! ;D

Hi All,

I agree with KGarrard re a visit to opticians if getting headaches etc. I also find some of the PC's and laptops I have seen have very bright screens which can hurt the eyes, I have turned the brilliance down to 85% approx, for mains power and battery. On Windows 7, the path too the brilliance settings is
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Power Options\Edit Plan Settings at the bottom, there are 2 sliders one for mains and one for battery, try lowering the sliders then press "Save". You may have to adjust a few times to get optimum setting.

I am jealous of your lovely weather,

Tom, there is nothing lovely about the weather in Australia at the moment! Sun does not necessarily equal nice weather. On the contrary I think the weather in Scotland is ideal - what I wouldn't do for some snow, wind and rain at the moment.

To get back on topic, I knew there was a way to adjust the brightness.  ;) I find the screen can be very bright, especially noticeable at night.

Ruskie and Tidy, many many thanks, I have lowered the brightness on my moniter, and it seems to work. For some reason everything else was fine, but Rootschat was just jarring. So pleased I can still visit my favorite site. Just need to change the brightness beforehand. :)

That's good news larkspur. It is quite bright isn't it?
Maybe when Trystan has finished all the essential work related to "the changes", he might consider just slightly altering the bright side panels to a duller tone.  ;)
