Well I have tried....
« on: Thursday 10 January 13 13:56 GMT (UK) »
Well I have tried many times, still getting a headache after only 10 minutes. Sorry...why oh why did you not let us have the option to view with the old layout. This may be good for phones etc, but for those of us who only go online via computer it is a pain. I LOVED this site. But again sorry despite all your hard work this aint working for me :'(

I really just don't understand this luddite attitude?

True, there have been cosmetic changes, but IMHO the functionality remains the same!

I can start new threads; reply to post; see replies to threads I have posted in; see unread posts since my last visit; and so on.

Everything I used to be able to do on the old version, I can do on the new version?

So, what's the problem?

As I said MY problem, nothing to do with Luddite's, It is the cosmetics I don't like or need IT GIVES ME A BANGING HEADACHE.
I would just have liked the possibility of using the site on my own computer with the option of a button so I could use the old format.

I find the new site fine.

What is giving you a headache larkspur? Some people had problems with the font when the new look rootschat appeared. Is that what you are having problems with? There is something which I can see may affect some people ....

As Ken says, most other things are in the same place and there haven't been too many changes overall.

There is a thread here:
http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,628395.msg4764600.html#msg4764600

which tells you how to set the font displayed on your screen.

Hi larkspur,

I can change the look of rootschat very quickly, do you have a mouse with a scroll wheel on it, if so press the "ctrl" button on keyboard, and move the scroll wheel to reduce the size of the margins, and increases the size ot the font. It makes things easier to read for me, anyway.
If you do not have a mouse, press"ctrl" and "+" to increase size of font, to a size that suits you, if you go too far, use "ctrl" and "-" to reduce the font.
Have a go with it, it may help you.

I am not sure it is the font size, I have already tried the scroll button trick and it does no good, but thankyou for mentioning it. I think it may be the background colour or brightness. Also I find it too busy and after a short while everything just jumps out at me.Something to do with my eyesight I think. So sad, I have had a lot of enjoyment and given and taken a lot of help here. I will pop in and out to check the Notts board but think that is it for me . I will stick to the other boards I use.

I thought it may be the brightness.  ;)

I think it may be more noticeable due to the wide bright margins on either side? I know Trystan originally had dark margins but there were some complaints I think, so he changed it. (I'm not sure but I think the complaints may have been about the pattern rather than the dark colour?). Maybe he would change the tone slightly to make it less 'glary' if you asked him? I know he has a lot on his plate at the moment, but he might add this to the list?

I believe there is also a way to change the brightness of your monitor, and someone should be able to explain how to do this.  :)

I really don't think that the rootschat pages are any busier than they were previously apart from the additon of the ads throughout the threads. I don't have any problems with my eyesight, but in general I find that animated ads on the internet do make me feel a bit dizzy.
