I believe that the 1901 Census at Goole is in fact your family and probably a mighty hash-up made by the enumerator - reasons being:

Your George Ramsey is the only one bc.1873 Thorne
There is no Lewis Ramsey bc.1898 Thorne

Could well be that the enumerator noted down the details roughly and wrote it up properly afterwards when the mistakes were made - for Emma read Eunice, and for Lewis read Leah.   Perhaps spelling wasn't his forte!

Hi Annette, thanks for the reply, I fear you could be correct, there is nothing at all for a Lewis Ramsey on nearly everything I have looked at for that time scale and area.
It must be one of the most frustrating things about family history, you tell yourself to check, double check and even triple check and then realise someone in some kind of official capacity made a mistake a hundred years ago. >:(
Oh well, onwards and upwards. :)

Hi Jess,

There is a 1901 census with a George Lewis who was born in Thorne circa 1874 aged 17 who was a farm servant.

Hi TomDodds, when you say George Lewis, did you mean George Ramsey?, if so then thankyou as that is the same George, he was working as a farm servant in Austerfield near Doncaster.

There is also a Lewis Ramsey in the 1901 census born in 1898 in Thorne residing in Goole as a boarder aged 3

Hi, yeah, as Annette7 said, it could well be that the enumerator made a complete hash of the entries and got the names all wrong as the 3 people mentioned on the census page (2 adults and 1 child) all have the correct age details. If you have a quick look at page 2 of this thread you will see what I mean.

Yeah, I know "Clutching at straws" springs to mind but that is the only thing that comes close as there is not a thing anywhere on the 1901 census regarding them, and as Annette7 says, Lewis could have been wrote down instead of Leah as that is what Martha was sometimes called (she was known by that name for the census which followed.
George could have travelled around looking for work I suppose, 1891 farm servant in Austerfield, 1901 dock labourer in Goole, and then 10 years or so later he was a Hay cutter in Thorne.
All in close proximity to each other.
