I've posted the complete details listed - the principle occupant/business owners are listed.

it looks to me that it may have passed down another generation between 1930 and '38

i have found out James Silvers father was also James and they were from Rathbaun in Ardrahan parish near Loughrea.

James senior was born probably around 1805-1815, and therefore im presuming the james silver in the 1826 rathbaun tithes is likely not him but his father thus the grandfather of james born 1843 and my ggggg grandfather.

would like to know the origin of the Silver name.

I wonder is it possible that John Silver (b.1838) from Carrabane, Loughrea (modern Kilconierin parish) and later of Ogilby Street, Woolwich is also related. He was a fine soldier (served in India) and the Silver surname wasn't that prominent around Loughrea so one never knows...

Hi Gavster,

Don't know how much more I can tell you tbh. The parish in question has a huge history in terms of providing Soldiers (including a VC winner) and John Silver had many fellow Parishioners let alone hundreds of fellow countymen (see aughty.org/pdf/SEGAHS_nl_spring2013.pdf) out there in India with him. His records are available in the National Archives. The story of Galwaymen in the British Army is one which is only now getting sufficient attention.

We're also currently studying those from the South-East Galway who fought in the great war and if you've any interest or wish to contribute, please contact us on facebook.com/SEGAHS. We've also interesting bits and bieces which you'll hopefully enjoy if your ancestors were from South-East Galway. And if you've any questions, just mail us and we'll try to help.

Regards,

S.
