Postal Service Appointments (Postman)

Any help appreciated!  The family story is that an ancestor Robert McIntosh Bell (1883) was a postman in London (I found the record in the online appointment book starting in 1912).  He was probably still working for the Post Office up to about 1923/7, then disappeared and we are told went to prison for stealing mail.  I cannot find any info in the online papers and if the story is true I am sure it must have made the papers!  I do not mind taking the trip to London, but where would I find out this information?  It would be good to put an end to the family rumours!

His bapt with his sister Mary and he is showing on census is available, do you have this info?

Thanks for that, doesn't look from the web tht records are available before 1994 online.  Will give them a call on Monday.

Many thanks for all your help.  Went to the Postal Archive yesterday and found the information.  He was sent to prison for stealing the post, so it was worth the trip.  Found the staff really helpful!
