Hello Again James
Unfortunately no one has his medals and my mum and uncle were very young when he passed away and they cannot remember his date of birth. I however found his death cert on BMD and he died in 1945 which puts his year of birth as 1883 but did not have his date of birth on it.I also cannot find his marriage cert yet but i keep searching. I now know he was ASC and was at bulford camp from the first photo which is a great help all Ive been searching at this time was for RE.
Thank you for your continued help James it is much appreciated.
Simon

Good evening,

Not really in the "press" but a motorcycle magazine. So probably put in for the interest of the motorcycles shown. Triumphs they are I would say, this is a 1914 model; http://www.verralls.com/veteran-motorcycles/1060.html . Verrals did have several nice ones of varying ages around that era. They were all locked away when I walked past earlier but I will try and get an exact ID at the weekend if the mechanic is in.

On the subject of MC despatch riders, here are 3 photos of my uncle, Frank Henry Powell, b. 1898 in London.
I know very little about his military service, but I think I have found his medal card (RE Cpl 182239, Victory+British, but no Star).
If someone could confirm that this is a RE cap badge, I would be grateful. Also the motor cycle (Triumph?) and any clue as to location?

Thanks
Andrew

Firstly I can confirm it is an RE cap badge, being an ex RE Despatch Rider/Instructor I should know what it looks like.

On another point.  I am the editor of the Royal British Legion Riders Branch newsletter http://www.rblr.co.uk/content/newsletters/newsletter16.pdf and our next issue is coming out in March and it will be biased towards WWI being the 100 yr anniversary.  We are also attempting to increase the funds we raise this year to £1 million for the Poppy Appeal.

For the cover we are looking for a pic of a WWI despatch rider and I saw this one of your Uncle, I would like to ask your permission to use it on the cover of our next newsletter, I can include your uncles service history inside if you sent it to me.  I would also get a copy sent to you once it has been printed.

Please let me know either way @ newsletter@rblr.co.uk
Regards
Dave Muckle
