Looking for Baptism record of Louisa Scammell/Scamel
« on: Thursday 03 January 13 11:04 GMT (UK) »
Happy New Year.
I'm looking for the baptism record of Louisa Scammell/Scamel.
She was 53 in the 1861 Census which states she was born in Tidworth, making her birth c1808.

Hi Kenby,

Do you have her parents names.  This might assist the search a little  ;)

It is possible that she was not baptized until later in life or she may have gone by another 1st name.
Looking in Familysearch.org there seems to me more than a few Scammell's in the area at that time, also Ancestry shows lots of trees but they all seem to be missing the details you require.

Not sure if this is related

The Louisa Scamel (later Scammell) I'm looking for married William Jackson (later Jackman) in North Tidworth on 6 September 1828 and had a large family that included Louisa Ann (born c1832 North Tidworth), Diana (born c1834 Tidworth), William Henry (born 1 July 1837 Ludgershall, Andover), Walter (born  June quarter 1839 Andover), Joseph (born March quarter 1841 Andover), Allen (born June quarter 1843 Andover), Alfred Thomas (born September quarter 1845 Andover), Erain/Eram/Aaron (born September quarter 1847 Andover), Ellen (born March quarter 1849 Andover) and George Edwin (born December quarter 1850 Andover)

Unfortunately, I don't have either of Louisa's or William's parent's names.

Unfortunately, parish records for North Tidworth don't appear to be online.   Certainly no Scammell's living there from the time of the census.

Besides Louisa, I can only find one Scammell link to Tidworth - a Mary Ann, married to a George Hazard/Hazzard is living in Stratford, Wiltshire in 1851 and living with the family is her mother Elizabeth Scammell widow bc.1783 Stratford, Wiltshire.   Mary Ann is shown as bc.1813 Tidworth so perhaps a sister of Louisa.  Ref. HO107 - 1846 - 427 - 5.

All I can come up with.

Hi Kenby,

Have you looked at the tree on Ancestry?  Seems to show parents of both William and Louisa.

I'll send you a PM
