I'd say that it was WW1 vintage or possibly just before. Maybe taken for husband/fiance/other male relative to take with them. The left hand is hidden so no way of saying if the lady was married or not.

I would agree anytime from around WW1 to 1920 as styles didn't change much during the war years.
We often see women with their left hand behind their backs & my theory is it's because they are unmarried but that's just a theory.

But it's a good theory, it's reasonable and there is evidence to back it up.

Married women were almost always (in a studio setting anyway) posed to show off a wedding ring. Even older women. So if a woman is photographed with her left hand out of view (and we've seen some odd, contrived poses) or even covered with a bit of dress or flowers, we may surmise that she isn't married.

Thank you so much Jim, China and anyone else who looked at this photo. I am brand new here and having trouble Jim and China gave me the giggles below. I came across several small photos on my Scotish side. I have to scan them to even really see them in my own psp. I am really thinking this younger woman may be my grandmother in her younger days. Another photo may be her older. I will post it as soon as I scan it and a few more.
