family problem 1881 census

I have a problem with a family in my tree and the 1881 census.
      WILLIAM SCOINS married CAROLINE CROSBEE in 1879 in Birmingham.
   but on the 1881 census they are no where to be found,at first i thought they had gone abroad ,but in 1882 they had a daughter in Birmingham.
  So i cant work out why they are not on the 1881 census.
    So if anyone has any ideas I would be greatfull.

Their name has probably been mis -transcribed.....how old would William/ Caroline be approx....and as Treefreak asks....do you know where they were born......

Have you got them on any other census?

and, since it was the 1881 we are searching through,
have you a street address for the birth, and William's occupation?
