Out of all my ancestors, only 2 events on this date.

John Lockwood my 3 x g.grandfather was baptised in Cumberworth, Yorks in 1786
He was a publican as was his father before him.  He was only 42 when he died, but as he died in 1828 I don’t know the cause of his death, so it might or might not have been related to alcohol.

Jane l’Estrange, my g.g.uncle’s 1st wife was baptised this day in 1854 in Finsbury, Middlesex.  She was only 27 when she died of abdominal typhus, leaving a 10 month old baby.

My gt. aunt Lily Kingsman born 1912 in Kensington, daughter of John and Annie (nee George).  Lily was always very smartly dressed, even after spending the night under the kitchen table during the Blitz. Hair, make-up, hat at a jaunty angle and off to work! She married in 1938, had one son and died in 1986 having lived all her life in London.

Daughter and son-in-law were married on 9th January some years back now.

My great-great-great-great grandfather John Garnsey married my great-great-great-great grandmother Mary Baker 9th January 1729 in Exeter.

My 4th cousin once removed William Barrett married Gwerfyl Lloyd on 9th January 1908 at Holy Trinity, Chelsea. This Barrett family have given me a good deal of difficulty as they had such a narrow range of male Christian names - John and William predominate, with very few having middle names. I suspect that when my great-grandfather, William Parish Barrett, was married there were at least three, perhaps four, William Barretts in the congregation.

Martha Hobson my 2 x g.g.aunt was born in Denby, Yorkshire in 1819

Ellen Mary Alden my half great aunt (my g.gran married twice) was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1874.  Sadly she died in 1876 aged 2 years from Rubeola (measles) for 7 days  and Croup for 3 days.

Richard Stanton my 6 x g.g. uncle was baptised in Morton by Bourne, Lincs in 1699/00

Maboth Bayldon  my 4 x g.grandmother was buried at Almondbury Parish Church, Yorkshire in 1812 3 days after her death.  She was a widow when she died, her husband having died 12 years earlier aged only 49.

Sarah Bagshaw (nee Lindley) my 6 x g.grandmother was buried at St John the Baptist Church, Penistone, Yorkshire in 1714/15.  She was 37

John Dameron my 10 x g.grandfather was buried in 1596/7 in Westerfield, Suffolk, two days after his death.  He left a widow and one daughter (who became my 9th g.grandmother).  He had a daughter who died aged about 10 and a son who died at a few days old.

My great grandfather, John Williams was born this day in 1839, at 10 p.m. in More Crichel, Dorset.   (The time given on his birth certificate suggests there may have been a twin .... but no evidence of this).    His father Isaac had died the previous June in an horrendous accident where he fell off a farm cart and was 'kicked in the pelvis and scrotum' until he bled to death.   This information was discovered for me by DebUSA, for which I am very grateful; I made a special journey to the Dorset record to see the inquest report.

Gr. grandfather John, who started working at about 10 years old as an 'ag.lab' went on to marry Mary Trowbridge, and they had (according to the 1911 census) 12 children; I have only managed to locate 10 of them, so perhaps the other two died at birth or soon after.   Although John started on the land in rural Dorset, he ended his days, with Mary and several of his sons, in the Risca area of south Wales.   I managed to trace him to the age of 93 or 94 from voting lists, but lost him at that point .... and with a name like John Williams in Wales .... he is more or less untraceable, and I cannot find his death or grave.  I have sent for two 'wrong' John Williams death certificates  ::)  and it starts to get a bit expensive !
