o'brien, john dunoghell tipperary - birth marriage records please

I am looking for any records regarding John O'Brien who attested for 5th foot fuseliers in 1839 at Kings?  His parish was recorded as Dunoghell, Tipperary.  I have his army papers but they give nothing away with regards to family.
My g.grandfather James O'Brien was born in Mauritius in 1852 whilst John was stationed there.  His mother is Ellen.
Can anyone help me with John's birth (May 1820) and the names of his parents and his marriage to Ellen.
We were told they were protestants but I am not sure if this is true.

Hi,

Donohill catholic parish records only start in 1821 which may be bad luck, however, it may be the case there might only a few Brien families in the parish.
You can commission research with the www.tfhr.org or copies of registers on microfilm in National Library Dublin ref: P2496
For the marriage, it depends if he married before joining (unlikely as he was only 18-19), soldiers married anywhere they served, his service records might mention a permission to marry.

the only site I can find any John O'Brien Marriages for 1820, there are 3, is on the site,   I.F.H.F. all born in Tipperary in 1820.  it costs about 7 dollars, 5 euro to look at them,  they my be worth a shot, as there don't seem to be any other records available this early, there are no Guarantees, but hope one is your John O'Brien, best of luck, Ben
