Rachel Marshall was buried in Stapleford 24 April 1823 age 76 which would make her bn around the same time as John.  When & where was John christened.  :-\

Rosie

Not sure who you are referring to here Rosie. I have my GGG GM, Rachel (Squires) Marshall (b. ~1750 -) who married John Marshall who I have b. or. c. 29 Mar 1746 in Stapleford. At this point, I’m unable to locate my source.

Can't see that marriage in the Curry Rivel index.  The church there is St Andrew.  I think there must have been a transcribing error somewhere.   A long way from Cambridge.   Where did you find it?

Here’s the complete record and link from Ancestry – I’ve seen a similar reference several times

Cambridgeshire, England, Extracted Parish Records about James Elborn Elizabeth Spencer

Ah, that is for a licence so maybe one of them was from Curry Rivel but they married in Cambs or vice versa?

I have now looked into this further and it seems to be a complete error in Ancestry that is repeated in various counties.  Presumably someone pressed the wrong key and put in Curry Rivel for all of them.  If you google "curry rivel cambridgeshire" you get a discussion on another forum where others have had similar problems with it cropping up out of the blue.
As the Curry Rivel index is online it is easy to see that the marriage was not there.
Hope that makes sense.

I am suggesting that perhaps this is the burial of your Rachel bn c1847.

Yes, Rosie, I finally figured it out – thank you! What was your source?

Also, today, I got a Marshall reply on Ancestry’s Message Boards in which you might be interested:

How are you connected to the Marshall/Elbourn/Dean line?

Hi Peter

I am not connected to the Marshall/Elbourn/Dean that I know of.   ::)
I was given some information on Stapleford PR's for Marshall's and variants as I have them in Little Shelford & Trumpington.

Thanks for the clarification, sillgen, it will save me a lot of time, not having to try and find a Curry Rivel in Cambridgeshire!  http://www.rootschat.com/forum/Smileys/christmas/grin.gif

Happy New Year,   Peter
