GRUZELIER....I'm really stuck!
« on: Sunday 30 December 12 12:07 GMT (UK) »
Hoping someone may have some genious idea to help me.  ::)

An alleged ancestor named Jane Gruzelier/Gruselier/Grusilier from Paul in Cornwall has me stumped. I have her marriage record to William Hoskin on 21 Jan 1740 (1739 in former calendar). I cannot locate a baptism record in order to elicit her approx year of birth or her parent's names.

I have found an Isaac Gruzelier who was also from Paul and was married in St. Buryan on 15th Feb 1731/2. Perhaps this could be a brother but he too seems not to have a baptismal record.

I have checked Cornwall OPC Databases, CFHS database, FindMyPast and Family Search.

Any suggestions?

Hi

A little more info but not what you asked for, still, it may help:

Willm. Hoskin & Jane Gruzilier ... ... 21 Jan. 1739
Thomas Rowe & Mary Gruzilier ... ... 23 Feb. ,,

This comes from a transcript i have of Paul Marriages, unfortunately there is no more info on the transcript.

I see you have listed several search sites but not FreeReg which, when i searched, finds the info you have and a few/bit more (especially if you use the soundex search option).

May take you a bit further.  If you need any more marriages from Paul i can look them up for you.

Thank you both for your responses.

Thanks too ccrail for the heads up on the FreeReg site. I will look into that. I'm assuming the Paul transcript is more concise than trawling through all the originals....so I may just get you to help me on that?

the record office in Truro holds the will of Isaac Gruzalier, mariner of Paul, (HMS Exeter)  which was proved in 1749 ref AP/G/7021. You can get a copy from there

http://www.cornwall.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=14713

The record office catalogue search

http://crocat.cornwall.gov.uk/DServe/searchpage.htm

shows up references to Gruzelier's/Grewzelier's premises in Newlyn - "late in the occupation of Andrew Grewzeliers cooper".

Another Cruzelier I came across in my own search is "John Richards at Paul married Frances Cruzelier also in 1726".

Osprey and Graylight thank you both for your input.

Information on Gruzelier/Cruselier certainly seems to be thin on he ground though. I may go to the Truro record office and followup on these suggestions when I am in the U.K, hopefully sometime in 2013.

Thanks Graylight. They are quite amazing aren't they but I sort of need to have some direction as to which years to look up? I have found a couple of Gruzelier's in those.....but they are the only ones....sorry got to go, my phone is ringing!
