[About us] and
RootsChat in the Public EyeYear for year, it grew ....

and grew ...
4 years old ...
5 years old ...

and grew ....
7 years old ...
8 years old ...
and now, on Monday 31st. December 2012,
RootsChat is 9 years old !!This year we've had the "painters and decorators" in, which has given the forum a new look,
and to the joy of many, has made it easier to view on various hand-held devices (iPads, mobile phones, tablets, Kindles, etc).
It's a bit like in real-life: now the main work is done, it take's ages to get the details right ...
pictures hanging up in the right places, finding stuff we put away somewhere ("in a safe place"), etc, etc.
So the fine-tuning will still continue for a while in 2013.
But before and after the upgrade, life goes on, with
- lookups,
- deciphering,
- photo restoration,
- technical help,
- "what does this mean ..",
- "How can I ...",
- etc.
- etc.
The resulting discussions, questions and answers brought our total postings count over the 4.000.000 mark.
New members joined, and researched alongside the "old" members.
And what is always heartening, some of the new members joined because of this, and similar reasons:
I was researching my family history on the internet and I came across your topic about my GG-Grandfather / Grandmother / Greataunt etc..."
But apart from the good things, there was also much sadness as we took leave from some of our Rootschat friends ...
R.I.P. Tisgrannie JillJ RabbitB Taidquest Alex Liggins GenieColgan and others.
RootsChat isn't primarily a "social networking" site, but for the regular visitors to the
Totally Off Topic Bit and in the
Chatroom, where RootsChatters can let their hair down, relax from the rigours of Family History, vent a few feelings, find comfort and support, have a few laughs, it certainly must seem so.
We will soon all be raising our glasses to toast in the New Year, but before we do, on the 31st. of December, remember to raise your glasses for a very special toast ....
Happy Birthday RootsChat
and
Thank You, Sarah and Trystan
for having the idea,
and then having the courage, the strength and the patience to implement it.
